Just over 3 years after the start of the war in Ukraine, the Italian government has decided to extend temporary protection permits granted to displaced people from Ukraine until 4 March 2026, provided that the beneficiaries request it. In addition, these permits can be converted into authorizations to work in the country.
This measure is provided for in the Milleproroghe Decree (Decree-Law of 27 December 2024, n. 202), published in the Gazzetta Ufficiale, which introduces urgent provisions on the extension of deadlines.
Furthermore, the decree extends initiatives to support and assist displaced people until 2025, including programmes within the Reception and Integration System. To ensure an orderly transition, civil protection rules will be issued that will allow temporary assistance measures to be progressively transformed into more permanent solutions.
However, the authorization for Ukrainian citizens residing in their country before February 24, 2022 to temporarily practice health professions and social health activities in the national territory has been extended until December 31, 2025. This will be possible as long as you have a professional certification obtained abroad, according to the guidelines of the European Union.
