For Italians residing outside Italy, FastIt is a useful digital platform for managing various consular procedures online without having to visit the consulate in person.
The platform is intended exclusively for Italian citizens whose citizenship has already been recognized and provides access to services such as:
registration with AIRE;
updating residence abroad;
requesting a tax code (codice fiscale);
registration of civil status records;
searching for the competent consulate.
How to access FastIt
To use the portal, it is necessary to create a personal account. By the end of 2026, access will only be possible through SPID or the Electronic Identity Card (CIE), the Italian digital identity systems.
After logging in, users can enter their personal information and start the available procedures directly online.
AIRE: an obligation for those living abroad
AIRE (Registry of Italians Residing Abroad) is mandatory for Italian citizens who live outside Italy for more than 12 months.
Registration must be completed within 90 days of moving abroad and generally requires:
a valid Italian identity document;
proof of residence in the foreign country;
a document confirming the residential address.
Any changes of residence must also be updated through FastIt or, in the event of a temporary service interruption, through the competent Consulate based on the foreign place of residence.
Verification of registration
It may happen that FastIt does not correctly display the completed AIRE registration even when the procedure has been finalized. For this reason, it is important to request official confirmation from the competent consulate or Italian municipality and keep all submitted documentation.
FastIt nevertheless remains a very useful tool for simplifying relations between Italians living abroad and consular administrations, making many bureaucratic procedures faster and easier.
