The new 2025 budget law, presented by the Italian Government few days ago, brings an important change for those who want to apply for the recognition of Italian citizenship through Italian courts.
This change involves the introduction of a Court fee of 600 Euros per applicant in citizenship cases before Italian courts, and the payment will be mandatory even if it is a joint application with several applicants.
This adjustment represents a significant increase compared to the current Court fees (Euro 518), which do not vary depending on the number of people included in the process.
This new requirement could especially impact those who want to apply for Italian citizenship by descent, increasing the court costs in these cases.
It is important to note that Article 106 of the budget law -where this modification is included- still needs to be approved by the Italian Parliament. If so, the increased Court fee would come into force on January 1, 2025 and would apply to all cases filed starting from that date onward.
