Discover ITALEA, the new project that will connect you with your Italian roots

Recently, the Italian government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, launched the ITALEA project, an initiative aimed at promoting the so-called “roots tourism” among Italian descendants worldwide. Its design focuses on allowing Italians and their descendants to “reconnect” with their origins through trips to Italy, offering personalized itineraries and programs to discover the places and traditions of their ancestors.

It is noteworthy that this project—funded under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and NextGenerationEU—also seeks to promote the economic development of less touristy places in Italy and strengthen ties with Italian communities abroad. In addition, ITALEA offers genealogy services to help reconstruct the family history of Italian descendants and an “ITALEA CARD” that provides benefits such as accommodation, activities, and transportation.
