By investing in Italy non-EU nationals can obtain a visa and a residence permit

How can one apply for an investor visa?

Investing in Italy

To apply for an investor visa and residence permit non-EU nationals shall invest alternatively:

- Euro 250,000 in an innovative startup operating in Italy

- Euro 500,000 in a company or venture capital fund operating in Italy

- Euro 1,000,000 in a philanthropic project of public interest

- Euro 2,000,000 in Government bonds

The application to obtain an authorization (nulla osta) shall be filed directly by the applicant through the web portal https://investorvisa.mise.gov.it and the Investor Visa for Italy Committee will proceed to its evaluation.

The investor visa will have a 1 year duration and the residence permit will have an initial 2-year duration and it can be renewed as long as the investment is kept in its original composition.

The holder of an investor visa and residence permit is not obliged to spend a specific minimum amount of time in Italy to keep the residence permit (therefore they could even stay 1 day per year) and their family members will be allowed to apply for a visa and residence permit for family reasons.

What are the steps of the process?
The application process entails different steps

- creation of a personal account on the web portal "Investor Visa for Italy"
- collection of the supporting documents including the documentation to prove the availabillity, lecit origin and transferability of the funds to perform the investment in Italy, educational and professional background of the applicant and the absence of criminal convictions and proceedings
- submission of the online application for the Investor Visa Committee to evaluate
- issuance of the authorization (nulla osta) by the Investor Visa Committee
- application at the Italian Embassy or Consulate in the foreign country of residence of the applicant to obtain the investor visa
- entrance in Italy with the investor visa on the passport and scheduling within the 8 following days of the appointment at the local Police office to apply for the residence permit and undertake the fingerprinting
- fingerprinting appointment at the local Police office
- within 3 months from the entrance in Italy, execution of the investment and submission of the relevant documentation to the Investor Visa Committee (otherwise the visa and the permit might be revoked)
